Below are some definitions if you didn’t major in biology and want to follow along without feeling like you skipped high school altogether. Skip this section if you’re a genius.
- Homeostasis – the ability or tendency to maintain internal stability in an organism to compensate for environmental changes. An example of homeostasis is the human body keeping an average temperature of 98.6 degrees. Basically, it’s the state of healthy balance.
- Endocannabinoid System (ECS) – The ECS helps fine-tune most of our vital physiological functions. It promotes homeostasis affecting everything from sleep, appetite, pain, inflammation, memory, mood, and even reproduction. So in basic terms, the ECS helps modulate the regulation of homeostasis across all major body systems ensuring that all systems work in concert with one another.
CBD stands for cannabidiol (can·na·bid·i·ol) and is a natural substance obtained from hemp plants that can promote wellness without any psychoactive or intoxicating effects. That’s right, it doesn’t get you high. It is an active compound known as a cannabinoid.
Cannabinoids are the molecules which give the cannabis plant its medical and recreational properties. CBD is used more for its health purposes; THC for the currently illegal recreational purposes. Just to be clear, CBD and THC are not the same thing and don’t have the same effects.
CBD works within the body primarily by reacting with the endocannabinoid system (ECS), a network of receptors and internally-produced cannabinoid-like substances. Did you catch that? We have a whole system named after cannabis. “Cannabinoid” comes from “cannabis,” and, “endo” is short for “endogenous,” which means that it is produced naturally inside of your body. So “endocannabinoid” simply means cannabis-like substances that naturally occur inside us. Our ECS was named after marijuana because scientists discovered cannabinoids in the plant first. Who knew.
When your body receives cannabinoids, its system is actually being treated instead of the symptoms. This is huge! This is way more impactful for creating a healthy body! Why CBD Oil at Escape?
As much as we would love to experience certain treatments like waxing or DermaSweep without any unpleasant side effects, the reality is that they can cause irritation to your skin in the form of mild swelling, redness and minimal pain. CBD oil targets inflammation and can reduce these unpleasantries.
CBD oil promotes relaxation and is known to reduce anxiety. Taking a single dose sublingually (under the tongue) or in a beverage can prepare your body for an enhanced relaxation experience during a massage or facial.
Whether your joints and muscles scream at you due to exercise or strain, or a disorder of some kind, using CBD oil during a massage can soothe your joints and muscles of present inflammation quickly because you have cannabinoid receptors on the surface of your skin!
At Escape Day Spa your health is a big deal. We even go so far as to whip up our own recipes for products we use like scrubs and shea butter for example. The brands we order are organic and we do our research on the companies before committing to using their products. Our CBD oil comes from Relyf and we have total confidence in the quality of CBD oil they provide.
NEW! Our Camp CBD will teach you more about the incredible health benefits of CBD oil which increase with regular use. It’s the perfect add-on to any service, especially after you’ve been in the sun as it can reduce redness and help cool inflamed skin. You begin by taking a single dose sublingually or in your beverage of choice. Choose from a 60-minute massage or our Signature Organic Facial plus a sample to take home for later.
