We want to be transparent and candid with you. Writing a blog post only highlighting the successes and positives of 2019 would not be an accurate reflection of our year. Parallel to all the happy and successful moments we experienced in 2019, was grief.
Tragedy hit our family earlier this year with the loss of our younger brother, Jason. Going on without the physical presence of Jason has changed the way we think, feel and do things. But instead of putting a spotlight on the pain of losing him, we want to share a little of Jason with you, because he is the kind of person we can all learn from.
Jason is a gentle, caring, and deeply spiritual soul with a love for nature that is unmatched. He spent a lot of time around the comfort of the trees, the sound of flowing water as it gently traveled down the creek, and the chatter of animals as they rustled through the forest floor and treetops. We believe that is where Jason found himself. That is where he felt at home and at ease. His hippie soul reflects nature’s unconditional and unbiased love for everything around him. He spent hours on end reading and writing. His communication was poetic and his humor was medicine to the soul. You knew when Jason entered a room. His presence brought life, soul, and laughter to any gathering. All who didn’t know Jason have missed out on knowing someone who, contrary to today’s typical daily grind and stressful attempts to achieve unfulfilling success, lived in a world driven by quiet moments, thoughtful smiles, playful interactions, any opportunity to love those closest to him, and the pursuit of peace – inner and with everyone around him.
We also want to acknowledge Angela Haley-Harris, who lost her daughter, Aniah. Our hearts go out to Aniah’s family and friends.
Many beautiful people were lost this year. Our hope is that we let the joy of their memory outweigh the pain of their loss.
Looking into 2020, we want to encourage you to love. Don’t waste time with senseless arguments. Don’t spend more hours on your phone than you do with the people around you. Open your eyes and see the beautiful relationships that need your presence. Instead of pouring yourself into work and chasing after the next success, pour into your children, your spouse, your siblings, your parents, your friends…May love be your greatest pursuit in 2020.
Happy New Year, everyone.
